Pentland Ferries is the only company operating the ferry route between St. Margaret's Hope and Gills Bay. The company opened the passenger and car ferry link to Gills Bay in 2001.

In the summer four daily routes are available while in the winter sailings depart up to three times daily. The voyage’s duration is one hour.

Pentland Ferries Company provides an attractive alternative and scenic sailing between Port St. Margaret's Hope and Gills Bay in northern Scotland. Since the company opened its car ferry link the town of St. Margaret’s Hope has become a busier place.

The Pentalina B. departs up to three times daily in the winter and in the summer there are four sailings per day available. Onboard facilities include a cafeteria serving a selection of foods and hot and cold drinks, and a pleasant outer deck area. The Pentalina B. can accommodate 250 passengers and has room for 48 cars. Crossing time is just one hour which currently makes it the fastest service between Orkney and northern Scotland.

The ferry is accessible to those with mobility difficulties, though physically handicapped travellers should notify Pentland Ferries of any special assistance at the time of making their reservation.
