St. Margaret's Hope is situated on South Ronaldsay. The A961 connects South Ronaldsay with Kirkwall which is situated on the largest island of the Orkneys, 'Mainland'.

From Kirkwall the other main towns of Twatt and Stromness can easily be reached by car as well by taking the A964 or the A966.


Travel by Bus and Shuttles


Bus services on the Orkney Islands are very limited however there are several bus routes on Mainland Orkney which Usually runs from Monday till Saturday. Apart from the daily route between Burwick and Kirkwall, which links with the ferry, there are buses from Kirkwall to Evie/Tingwall, Stromness, St Margaret's Hope, Dounby, East Holm and Deerness. Trains and Rail Travel


There are no railway services available on the Orkney Islands. Alternatively there is a bus service operating between the major towns on the Islands. Car hire and taxis are available as well. During summer a privately-run ferry sails daily from John O'Groats to Burwick on the southern tip of Orkney. No cars taken, but bicycles are allowed. The trip takes about 40 minutes.
